Directions

1. Heat olive oil in a large pot, add the 2 packets of soup mix and sauté over medium heat for 5 minutes.

2. Add the ginger, garlic, curry powder and garam masala, then stir and sauté for 2 minutes to toast the spices.

3. Add the washed split peas and 2 litres of water, cover the pot and simmer for 1 hour or until the peas are tender.

4. Crumble in the vegetable stock cube, add 2 cups of water, then simmer for another 15 minutes. Season to taste and serve.

5. You can blend the soup if you prefer a smooth texture.

  • 1 tbsp. (10ml) olive oil
  • 2 packets of Freshmark Country Style Soup Mix
  • 2 tbsp. (10ml) fresh ginger; chopped
  • 2 tbsp. (10ml) garlic; crushed
  • 2 tbsp. (10ml) mild curry powder
  • 2 tbsp. (10ml) garam masala
  • 2 cups (500ml) dried split peas; washed
  • 2.5L water
  • 1 vegetable stock cube
  • Salt and pepper to taste
